______emotional source of music.
When
I was first involved with electronic synthesizers in the 1970's, I often dreamed
of having an entire actual symphony orchestra at my command via the keyboard.
This was only a wild and wonderful fantasy - until now.
With
modern computer power, sophisticated samplers, and some very large and dedicated
orchestra recording projects that provide the sampled instruments, my old
fantasy has come true with amazing power and breadth.
From huge string sections to bassoons and tympani, all the instruments of
the modern orchestra are represented in a massive collection of samples. Now,
I have the actual instrument sounds - note by note - to orchestrate as desired.
As amazing as this technology and art
is, it does not yet compare to the human nuances of a real orchestra, but
listen to some of my clips here and you can see how realistic it can be.
For one person making a film on a low budget, these tools bring possibilities that othewise would only be available to the big studios.
It's
an important step in the "democratization" of television and film
art – removing the roadblocks and making all art form technologies accessible
to anyone.
Now, the only important factor becomes the actual artistry and artistic
quality of the work.
I am working on a new project called "Apple Tree" which is my original narrative story with a full score for symphony orchestra and piano. This is a 25 minute piece that tells the emotional tale of a man who is transformed into a tree by the power of love.
